U-CAT SA 506 is a thermal Latent base generator. It is the p-toluenesulfonate salt of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU). DBU is a strong base commonly used in organic chemistry. However, it is not very stable at room temperature and can decompose, releasing ammonia gas. U-CAT SA 506 is more stable than DBU and does not release ammonia gas until heated to approximately 160 degrees Celsius. This makes it a safer and more convenient alternative to DBU for use in organic synthesis.
